FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • We are a structured mathematics academy — not a worksheet-based tutoring centre. Our 5-week modular programme, closed-loop sessions, and ability-based stage placement are fundamentally different from ad-hoc tutoring.

We build lasting mathematical ability, not short-term test results.

  • Teaching, practice, and homework are all completed within the same session under teacher supervision. Students leave with clarity and completed work — no guessing at home, no unfinished problems.

  • The 1.5-hour option (available for Stage 2 and 3) offers a slightly shorter session with the same structured format, suitable for students or families with tighter schedules.

  • Stage 2 and 3 run on 5-week modules. Each begins with a diagnostic pre-assessment and ends with a mastery post-assessment. A written progress report is issued at the end of every module. Students advance only when mastery is demonstrated.

  • Yes — Foundations and Reasoning stages are aligned to the NZ Curriculum. Advanced Concepts is dual-aligned to both NZ Curriculum and Cambridge International (IGCSE Extended).

  • Yes. Our Advanced Concepts stage (Year 8–10 + IGCSE) is specifically designed to prepare students for both NCEA examinations and Cambridge International examinations, depending on their school’s pathway.

── About our programmes

  • Every new student completes a free diagnostic assessment with our Academic Lead. Placement is based on conceptual understanding, reasoning ability, and learning style — not school year or age.

  • Placement is always about finding where your child will thrive most effectively. Being in the right stage — even if lower than expected — is far more valuable than being stretched prematurely.

  • Please see our Pricing page for full details. There is a one-off $50 registration fee and $30 per term materials fee. Term programme fees vary by stage and session length. 1-on-1 tuition is available on enquiry.

  • Students typically join at the start of a new term. Contact us to arrange a free assessment and we’ll advise on the next available intake for your child’s stage.

  • Yes, 1-on-1 tuition with our Academic Lead is available by enquiry. Please contact us directly at info@pathwaymaths.co.nz for pricing and availability.

  • Ground Floor, 3 Margot Street, Epsom, Auckland 1051 — close to the Epsom school zone. Sessions run after school on weekdays and on weekends.
